SINGAPORE (Dow Jones)–Yahoo Inc.’s (YHOO) Asia operations haven’t seen any
significant impact from the global economic uncertainties and continue to see
growth in its advertising business in the region, a senior executive said
Thursday.
“Asia is still growing,” Ken Mandel, Yahoo’s vice president and managing director
for Southeast Asia, told Dow Jones Newswires on the sidelines of a technology
conference in Singapore. “No one has a crystal ball, but so far there hasn’t been
a downturn.”
He said the online industry’s ability to provide detailed data to measure the
effectiveness of advertisements makes it more resilient to tough economic
conditions.
“If your budget is shrinking, you put it on the web and you can really see
quickly what’s working and what’s not working, fine-tune that and you end up
driving more return of investment,” Mandel said.
He also said Yahoo will continue to expand its presence in Southeast Asia, which
the company considers a key growth market, but declined to provide targets on
headcount or growth expectations.
