SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) - Wall Street is casting serious doubt on the rumors
of a deal between Yahoo Inc. and News Corp. - one that would supposedly help
Yahoo thwart a buyout offer from Microsoft.
Several analysts think the scenario — in which Yahoo (YHOO) would team up with
News Corp. (NWS) to combine the Internet company with MySpace and other Fox
Interactive Media properties — didn’t make sense. And some believe the rumored
negotiations are just part of Yahoo’s efforts to pressure Microsoft into raising
its bid price.
The potential alliance got much attention Wednesday when two technology blogs and
the Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed sources, reported that Yahoo and News
Corp. were discussing such a partnership.
