The consumerism got out control

By Daniel at 17 November, 2008, 4:07 pm

Every year we get useless or gifts from people for birthdays, somebody day, holidays, etc. The stuff clutters the house. Then the wife got to worry about the doing the same for everybody, going to the stores, buying the same kind of junk, then wrapping it all up with fancy paper and all.

I told and our friends that we would rather limit the gifts. Once a year buy something practical that lasts a lifetime like hi quality tools or kitchen items. Same for toys, I go for the educational stuff.

People got totally disconnected from reality -

There was too much peer pressure for the rich and the middle class or even working poor to do hi living. There is nothing wrong with waiting, saving and paying 20% for a fixed mortgage modest house, paying for used cars in cash.

Meanwhile, it is best to hunker down and hope for the best, but plan contingencies for the worst. These problems are too big for the government to bail out most of us.
