On2 Technologies and Justin.tv Announce Deployment of On2 Flix(R) Publisher for Live Broadcasting

Live Broadcasting Capabilities Brought to the Masses Through Justin.tv’s Deployment of Browser Based Plug-and-Stream Application From On2

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. and SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — On2 Technologies, Inc. (Amex: ONT - News), a leader in video compression software and solutions, and Justin.tv, the leader in live video online, announced today that Justin.tv has licensed On2’s Flix Publisher Live encoding and publishing solution for its live streaming service. Justin.tv publicly launched its live, free streaming services this week, making the power of live video programming available to anyone with a computer, a web cam and an Internet connection.

On2 Flix Publisher Live is an innovative browser based plug-in that renders the user’s browser into an encoding and publishing platform without any expertise, installation, or investment required by the user. The videos are encoded directly on the user’s desktop and streamed live on the Internet by simply plugging a webcam into the computer and logging on to Justin.tv. On2 Flix Publisher Live works with Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox browsers for Windows based personal computers.

“On2 Flix Publisher Live overcomes the challenges that are associated with live broadcasting, which have limited quality live broadcasts to large production houses,” said Bill Joll, president and CEO of On2 Technologies. “Justin.tv has leveraged Publisher Live to democratize live broadcasting, and we expect the user generated content and social networking community to embrace this new paradigm in web video delivery as a result.”

In addition to making live broadcasting easier, Justin.tv combines a strong viewer community, customizable channel pages, full video archives, and an easy-to-browse front-page to offer viewers and broadcasters endless opportunities and a wide-array of content from 24/7 to event based broadcasting. At the same time, the video is streamed using the On2 VP6-E(TM) codec, the highest quality streaming video format available for the ubiquitous Adobe® Flash® Player, available on more than 90% of PC’s worldwide.

“The partnership with On2 is great for the Justin.tv community because the VP6-E format allows broadcasters to stream higher quality video at a lower bit rate,” said Michael Seibel, co-founder and CEO of Justin.tv. “In practical terms, this technology allows Justin.tv to reach out to wider audience of broadcasters who don’t have the high speed bandwidth required to stream to other live video sites. The result is more live video from more broadcasters around the world. Furthermore, On2’s in browser VP6-E solution is significantly better than other downloadable solutions on the market.”
