TOKYO (Dow Jones)–A executive at Microsoft Corp.’s (MSFT) Japan unit said Monday
that even if the company failed in its bid to acquire Yahoo! Inc. (YHOO), it
would still make a significant investment in its own online business.
Yu Sasamoto, who heads Microsoft’s online division in Japan, said the offer
should be taken as a signal of how important Microsoft considers its Internet
operations.
He also said the company would make a “big announcement” regarding an investment
in its Japanese online business within the next six months, but declined to
comment further.
