MBIA To Suspend Structured-Finance Underwriting For 6 Mos

MBIA Inc. (MBI) said it will suspend the writing of all new structured-finance
business for the next six months.
The Armonk, N.Y., bond insurer also said it will move within five years to
separate its public and structured-finance insurance businesses.
MBIA dropped out of a bond insurance trade group Thursday, saying that the
industry must separate the business of insuring municipal bonds from the riskier
business of guaranteeing other types securities.
In a letter to investors, the company said Monday it may have move the company if
the U.S. tax code is not modified.
Shares in MBIA fell 25 cents to $14.33 in recent after-hours trading.
