HONG KONG (MarketWatch) — The Hong Kong Exchanges & Clearing Friday said trading
in securities and derivatives will be delayed in the morning after the Hong Kong
Observatory issued a tropical storm signal. Trading may be canceled for the day
if the storm signal no. 8, issued early Friday, remains in place until noon. The
Hong Kong Observatory said Typhoon Nuri was forecast to be “rather close to Hong
Kong this afternoon and tonight with a chance of direct hit,” and that the signal
no. 8 would be in force for most of the day. At 9 p.m. ET, Typhoon Nuri was
centered around 94 miles southeast of Hong Kong and forecast to move northwest or
west-northwest at about 8.8 miles an hour. Signal no. 8 is issued when a storm
force wind is blowing or expected in Hong Kong, with a sustained wind speed of
39.4-73.1 miles an hour.
