WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)–The Federal Trade Commission on Friday confirmed that it
is investigating Intel Corp. (INTC) for anti-competitive conduct.
An FTC spokesman would not comment further on the case.
Intel, the world’s largest computer chip maker, is facing accusations that it
engaged in practices that tried to cut its competitor, Advanced Micro Devices
(AMD), out of the marketplace.
“They would create quotas with key retailers, effectively requiring them to stock
overwhelmingly with their chips. They would threaten retaliation against
customers,” said Computer & Communications Industry Association President Edward
Black.
CCIA, which was heavily involved in the antitrust case against Microsoft Corp.
(MSFT), has been encouraging companies in the industry to cooperate with the FTC
investigation.
Intel has confirmed that it received an FTC subpoena Wednesday.
