Economic data weighs on tech sector
Microsoft reportedly looking to buy Yahoo’s search business

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — Technology stocks lost ground in early trading
Tuesday, with reports on the latest talks between Microsoft Corp. and Yahoo Inc.,
and Hewlett-Packard Co.’s upcoming earning results highlighting the sector’s
action.
Most tech stocks felt the broad-market impact of rising food and energy prices. A
Federal Reserve official also said that U.S. central bankers would likely hold
the line on short-tern interest rates in the coming weeks.
