Canada Hot Stocks: Maple Leaf Foods, Forsys Metals

Among the companies whose shares are making notable moves in Thursday’s session
are Maple Leaf Foods Inc. (MFI.T) and Forsys Metals Corp. (FSY.T).

Maple Leaf Foods Inc. (MFI.T, C$10.15, -C$0.44, -4.2%) expanded a recall of
packaged meats and temporarily closed a Toronto plant in connection with an
outbreak of listeriosis. A direct link between the listeriosis cases and Maple
Leaf hasn’t been made, but Octagon cut its rating on the stock to hold pending
more information about the situation.

Forsys Metals Corp. (FSY.T, C$4.20, C$0.20, 5.0%) said Namibia’s Ministry of
Mines and Energy has granted a Forsys unit a 25-year mining licence, allowing
full-scale development of the Valencia uranium mining operation to proceed.

Energy Inc. (DFE.T), Petro-Canada (PCZ), and SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. (SNC.T).

Gold is higher Thursday, benefiting gold producers Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX,
C$37.62, C$1.92, 5.4%), Goldcorp Inc. (GG, C$36.45, C$2.10, 6.1%), and Kinross
Gold Corp. (KGC, C$17.94, C$1.25, 7.5%).

Day4 Energy Inc. (DFE.T, C$4.16, C$0.16, 4.0%) said the China Patent and
Trademark office has decided to award the company a patent for its core Day4
Electrode solar technology.

A joint venture between SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. (SNC.T, C$51.50, C$1.50, 3.0%) and
Sinclair Knight Merz has received a contract worth about C$92 million to provide
engineering, procurement and construction management services for the major
sustaining projects for Rio Tinto Alcan’s Boyne Smelter in Australia.
