Another interesting freight tidbit from the Journal of Commerce:

“U.S. Sheds Transport Jobs in October

The Journal of Commerce Online - News Story
…..Freight transportation employment fell again in October, the Labor Department said, and many of their major customer groups shed jobs as well.
…..Measured by the raw numbers supplied by employers, without adjusting for typical seasonal variations, Labor said the trucking industry lost 8,700 jobs last month. That left the largest transportation industry segment with about 1.27 million workers, down from 1.279 million in September and nearly 1.284 million in August.
…..Rail employment stayed close to recent levels. Labor said the freight and intercity passenger rail operations had 211,400 workers last month, down only 100 nationwide from September.”

Now, remember, theoretically we should be seeing an upswing to deal with the retail season fast approaching (actually they started it in October but don’t want to admit it because the results were dismal). So, what is there to rally on? Certainly NOT the economy, or the future for the next two years minimum.
